CHARTER SCHOOLS IN TAMPA

Charter schools are independent public schools operated by a non-profit organization. Yes they are tuition free just like a regular public school but they hire their own teachers, design their own academic program, and control their own finances. Some of the differences for a student might include less sports programs or extracurricular activities, smaller class sizes, a wider range of academic approach and learning styles, and limited to no transportation. Charter schools are typically based on lottery enrollment so you’ll have to check on specific schools you are interested in for their application process.

Some of the charter schools in Tampa include:

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School

Horizon Charter School of Tampa

BridgePrep Academy of Tampa

TAMPA MAGNET SCHOOLS

Tampa magnet schools are an option for any grade level with public elementary, middle, or high schools. The “magnet” name refers to the way the school draws in students from outside certain districts and offers special areas of study. Unlike a charter school, magnet schools are operated by the public school district. Magnet schools offer students opportunities to discover, explore, and refine their talents and interests while focusing on excellence in academics. Magnet programs can range from arts, to science, and even technology rich themes.

Some examples of magnet schools are:

Starkey Ranch K-8 School or MacFarlane Park Magnet

Walker Middle or Rampello

Jefferson High School or Blake High School
