THINGS TO DO IN ST PETERSBURG FL

From the downtown area to the beaches, there are endless things to do in St. Petersburg Florida. There are a variety of attractions spread out in pockets throughout the city and a walkable area concentrated in downtown. One of the top attractions in downtown is the St. Pete Pier. The waterfront experience stretches 26 acres where you can walk, bike, swim, dine, drink, enjoy a concert or soak up some sun at the park. 

 

If you want to appreciate art or brush up on history then check out The Dali (Salvador Dali Museum) with rotating exhibits. The nearby Chihuly Collection features mind-blowing glass work and for some history, consider visiting The Florida Holocaust Museum. The kids-friendly Great Explorations, is a hands-on children's museum dedicated to a creative and fun learning environment. Sunken Gardens is a historic gem in the St. Pete area that’s worth a visit. It’s a beautiful 4 acre botanical garden that’s more than 100 years old and one of the oldest living museums in the United States.

Sports enthusiasts can easily catch a game with our two Professional teams.  Located in Downtown St. Pete, you can cheer on the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team at Tropicana Field or the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team at Al Lang stadium. A short commute over the bridge will get you to the city of Tampa where you can find the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team at Raymond James or the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team at the Amalie Arena.

Florida is known for having breathtaking beaches and not many are better than the St. Petersburg beaches. Relax on some of the most beautiful sugar sand beaches or get out on the water with endless activities like fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, paddleboarding, jet skiing, boating, and more.

St. Petersburg beaches are top ranked in the nation with beautiful white sand and clear, warm water. In fact, St. Pete Beach has been ranked in America’s top 10 beaches since 2012 (according to Tripadvisor), topping the list in 2021. Located just 20 minutes from downtown, you can go from hustle to hiatus in a short commute. Other notable beaches include Egmont Key, Fort Desoto, Maximo, and North Shore.

The heart of the city of St. Petersburg is definitely the downtown area. Many of the things to do we mentioned above are centrally located like the museums, great restaurants and bars, and the visually stunning St. Pete Pier. ST. PETERSBURG FLORIDA NEIGHBORHOODS

St. Petersburg, Florida offers everything from old historic neighborhoods to downtown condo living. Overall, you can expect a mix of urban and suburban feel and a population of over 260,000 people. 

 

Charm and character flood the neighborhoods of Historic Old Northeast and Historic Kenwood. They have great walkability with schools, coffee shops, and restaurants nearby and are less than 10 minutes to downtown St. Pete. 

 

Snell Isle is a neighborhood northeast of downtown with the historic pink Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort and Golf Club. 

 

Continue north and you will find the small, quaint neighborhood of Shore Acres with great parks and waterways.

HOW FAR IS ST. PETERSBURG FROM TAMPA?

St. Petersburg is 25-35 minutes away from Tampa when the bridges are accident free and not traveling during high traffic hours. The after work commute can take anywhere from 40-60 minutes. Two bridges connect St. Pete to Tampa. One route is I-275 N across the Howard Franklin Bridge into downtown. Another route is Gandy Blvd N to the FL-618 Toll E/ Selmon Expressway.
